NOA (NAMUR Open Architecture) is a concept for transmitting device information over a second communication channel without affecting the traditional automation structures and with no impact on the automation system. It provides use cases such as unique identification, device health, automated as built or dimensioning design check and can be used for existing systems (brownfield) as well as the new developments such as Advanced Physical Layer (APL) or Module Type Package (MTP).
