License management appears to be a significant pain point within our IT team. As it stands, we have one tech who is the point man on all things license-y. Basically, all the knowledge about what licenses we have for which pieces of software, what network licenses are kept on which server, etc., are stuck inside his head and in variously-named text files in per-software folders on a network drive. Because of this, everything to do with software licensing has to go through him, which creates an often-significant bottleneck in our processes. This has the end result of making us reactive instead of proactive.
I’ve seen some people talk glowingly about Snipe-IT, and there is also a license manager for ManageEngine ServiceDesk which we already use. Ideally, any solution (software-based or procedural) would be able to list all of our licensed software, the usage of the licenses, and remind us of renewal dates. Does anybody here have any general recommendations or specific input?
